Problem with relative paths for images

I want to create an Image object, as follows: <image src="image.gif"> The problem is that apparently the image file has to be in a subdirectory of "chrome". It doesn't work if I use "../" to access a parent directory of "chrome", such as follows: <image src="../images/image.gif"> Does anyone know how to do that ?
