To the list manager: Please redefine a mission statement for this list

I originally subscribed intending to lurk and read some interesting
information and discussion about java, struts, or MVC programming from
sources external to my company, hopefully at a higher level
("architecture/best practices") than the struts-users list.
After subscribing, I spent a couple of months without getting much mail from
the list other than advertisements for courses run by basebeans which I am
not interested in. I feel we can't object to that since they're hosting the
list and IMHO those posts are on topic. I did not get a lot of architecture
related mail from the list, but the low volume is fine by me since my intent
was to lurk and read the ideas that came across from others.
Recently however, it seems that the nominally "mvc-programmers" list has
recently been repurposed as a support / communication forum for the
aforementioned cours(es) which I'm personally not taking.
I would appreciate some clarification from the list manager as to what the
purpose of this list is so I can make an informed decision on remaining
subscribed or unsubscribing.
Thanks,
-Tim
