I think there is a clean possibility to start a standard web container from a running MBeanServer containing all my MBeans. I did not explore Tomcat, but Jetty offers a clean way to point to a war that contains a web app. This web app only depends on JSR 160 and on a parameter passed to the ServletContext. This web app can perform whatever one wants, from generating XML and converting it with XSLT (as the current HttpAdapter), to a brand new console made with Webwork/Struts/Maverick/Tapestry/Shocks/whatever, JSP/JSF/Velocity/Flash/whatever. We provide the starter kit to plug a web console into an MBeanServer. We can provide a default console.
