Disconnection notifications

Hi,
 
I thought I had this working...but perhaps I hadn't...
 
We have a repository server to which other application JVMs connect and
register their MBeans with.
 
The server registers a notification listener on the MBeans, so that it
knows when they disappear.
 
I find it works fine and fairly immediately when the application JVM is
local (on the same linux box) and killed via kill -9.
 
But when the app JVM is on Windows and killed in a similar way, using
Process.destroy (from another JVM that create the app JVM) the
notification takes 10 minutes or so to arrive.
 
I presume this is some slightly different connection timeout compared to
the one being detected for the local JVMs - but having tried playing
with the various dgc lease/timeout settings, I can't seem to make it
happen more quickly.
 
So - anyone got any thoughts on what it might be
