It's time again for the NetBeans Governance Board elections! In this
email you will receive an introduction to the election process and find
out how you can take part.
If you already know the the process, nominations and the actual voting
results can be followed at

The election process will be based on the schedule below:

May 20 - June 2: Two-week nomination period
*
June 3 - June 16: Two-week official polling period
*
June 17: New NetBeans Board members to be announced to community
Nominations should happen on the nbdiscuss mailing list
<http://www.netbeans.org/community/lists/top.html> (subscription
required to post), or by replying to this email if you wish to make an
anonymous nomination.
Overview of the process:
NetBeans Governance - The NetBeans project has a very flat, lightweight
governance structure. Decisions are made in public discussion on public
mailing lists. There are no formal roles - an individual's word carries
weight in accordance with their contribution to the project. Decisions
are made by consensus, rather than voting - most decisions are of
interest only to members of the community who will be affected by it.
The combination of public mailing lists and consensus ensures that any
person who could be affected by a decision both finds out about it, and
has a voice in the discussion.
In the case of an irresolvable dispute, there is a governance board. The
board consists of three people, who are appointed for six month terms.
Two of the members are appointed by the community, by consensus or vote
on the public mailing lists. The third is appointed by Sun Microsystems,
which started the project and funds the web site and a large number of
developers who work on NetBeans full-time. The board is a voting body,
but in practice, a dispute that cannot be resolved and needs its
intervention is extremely rare.

NetBeans Board Election Process - The NetBeans Board Elections take
place in three steps.
1.
Nominations - The nomination period runs for 2 weeks and any
NetBeans community member is eligible for nomination and any
NetBeans community member may nominate any number of community
members. The Board consists of 2 "at-large" members, nominated by
the community, and one Sun-appointed member. The current nominees
and their acceptance or otherwise of the nomination will be made
available on this page.

Voting - The voting period runs for 2 weeks. The voting will be
done via a web-based poll. Anyone with a NetBeans.org login is
eligible to cast a vote. A call to vote will be sent 3 times to
top level mailing lists nbweekly, nbdiscuss, nbdev and nbusers.
The poll will also be advertised via a banner on the web site for
some period of time.
3.
Results - The results will be announced on the top level mailing
lists nbweekly, nbdiscuss, nbdev, nbusers and through the NetBeans
Edge. The Board page
