Module News
-----------

We have two new modules:

1. NetBrowser. Its goal is to be a fully functional Java web browser.
Read all
about it at http://netbrowser.netbeans.org/ It's based on Jazilla, which
was the
port of Mozilla to Java. At least they didn't call it Netzilla.

2. Class browser. Tom Ball contributed a class browser module that helps
you read
classfiles. If you have ever tried this armed with a copy of the
classfile spec and
Emacs in binary mode you'll know how useful this will be:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-contrib/msg00061.html.

There was also a proposal for a terminal emulator which should make
running and testing applications within the IDE a far superior
experience:
http://www.netbeans.org/proposals/term/proposal.html.

* nbdev
-------
Yarda put forward a proposal for publishing modules via AutoUpdate:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07870.html.

The "Netbeans as a platform" discussion continued, with a contribution
describing one developer's experience writing an application with it:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07894.html. As always, these
are worth reading to find out how we're doing broadening Netbeans'
scope.

George Dvorak posted a proposal to make localisation easier:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07933.html

Milos Kleint spotted that he can use grouping to enhance the version
control modules: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg07981.html

Jesse Glick created a script that checks for double checked locking,
which cannot be relied upon because of a possible VM 'optimisation' that
can break it. Developers beware: no more DCL!
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08043.html

The easiest performance improvement of the year (probably) was put
forward
by Trung: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08053.html Save 20% in
only
16 keystrokes (or one cut 'n' paste).

* nbusers

http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg08834.html

Using the IDE with Windows look and feel is a known problem:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg08898.html

Some debugging issues on Solaris 2.7, with Forte 2.0:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg08942.html

Should member variables generated by the form editor be protected?
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg08970.html

Those of you on the bleeding edge might like to try integrating
Poseidon, a UML tool: http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg08993.html

* nbui
------
Is sorting in the IDE consistent? There was agreement that
improvements should be made:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02277.html

Making VCS easier for the user is still ongoing:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02288.html

Chris tried to wrap up "New" categories, but discussion continued apace:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02299.html

The effect of the workspaces on workflow was brought up:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02354.html
Do workspaces provide "seamless" compile-edit-debug cycles?

* nbdiscuss
-----------
There was an *important* discussion about the Sourcecast upgrade.
Everyone should read the
thread - action is required by module owners:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdiscuss/msg00500.html

The final date for the Sourcecast upgrade has been announced too:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdiscuss/msg00532.html

George Dvorak explained why some posts take a while to reach the
newsgroups:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdiscuss/msg00536.html

That's all this week folks!
