We're always looking for editors to help out - contact [email protected] Please send news contributions to [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------ Major achievements ------------------ NetBrowser is our first project not tied to NetBeans as closely as rest of our modules. Everybody is watching how guys will succeed. And there seems to be progress - new code in CVS repository. http://netbrowser.netbeans.org/netbrowser-dev/msg00054.html Generic Java support enabled. We have contacted guys that lead the JSR-14, which goal is to add support for polymorphic types into Java and asked them, whether we can enable the support for generics in NetBeans. They agreed, so in todays build you can find a preview implementation of generic java. http://jcp.org/jsr/detail/14.jsp http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08377.html Another successful q-build. For eager users trying to test our latest product and still be sure (at least a bit) that there is nothing badly broken Sun QA department spent last friday with nigtly build and found it usable. http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08360.html -------------- nb-dev traffic -------------- The new release of NetBeans will be fast! Trung has found another easy way to speedup the startup per 20%. When would I prepare my coffee, if NetBeans started so fast? http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08215.html Have you heard that there is an implementation of metadata repository and that it is part of NetBeans? Correct. Did anybody find it? No. It is still not part of our CVS and here is the explanation by Martin Matula. http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08355.html A proposal describing our way to new project implementation has been sent by Vita. http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbdev/msg08227.html ----------- api traffic ----------- A long time ago a thread about the ways how to implement editor Annotations started and now the API seems to be finished and David will soon work on real implemetnation. Everybody will be able to attach smiling faces to lines in editor! http://openide.netbeans.org/openide-dev/msg02829.html Lookup disabilities addressed by Svata and enhancements suggested. Looks like our lookup is trying to catch the complexity of Jini. Is this really necessary? http://openide.netbeans.org/openide-dev/msg02814.html ---------- ui threads ---------- Christoph Kutzinski tries to create a new action that will close more tabs at once. A branch out discussion followed. http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02394.html Updated proposal about L&F of component palette announced by Jano Rojcek. http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbui/msg02399.html That's all this week folks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This issue of NetBeans Weekly News was brought to you by Yarda Tulach. The next editor will be Prabhakar Chaganti. (New volunteers are welcome!) Please send news contributions to [email protected]
