---------------------------------------------------------------------- NetBeans Weekly News, a newsletter for the NetBeans community Issue #43 - November 26, 2001 URL: <http://www.netbeans.org/newsletter/2001-11-26.html> Interested in becoming a newsletter editor? We're always looking for editors to help out - contact [email protected] Please send news contributions to [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Everything seems to be focused on bringing the next releases (3.3 and 3.3.1 out of the door. You can find some summary on bug count and the release schedule int this message: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=196754&listName=nbdev> Beta 5 was published on Wednesday. <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=196870&listName=nbdev> Beta 6 was less successful and we are still waiting for it's promotion for usage: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=199182&listName=nbdev> However we are coming closer to the 3.3 release. Branches for the upcoming releases were created on Friday and the branch for 3.3 release immediately went into high resistance mode: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=197978&listName=nbdev> Having so many branches is not free of course. Jan Chalupa summarizes how to deal with them in Issuezilla: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=198620&listName=nbdev> The core team tries to make things more simple by "ignoring" the main trunk: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=199086&listName=nbdev> But not everybody is doing 3.3 bugfixes only. There are exceptions. Some people noticed that there grows a competition for NetBeans in form of other IDEs like Eclipse and IntelliJ. They obviously learned a lot from NetBeans. May be now is time for NetBeansto learn something from them: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=193975&listName=nbdev> Libor Kramolis announced new version of XML module: <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=194351&listName=nbusers> Jarda Tulach is working on new features of core and open APIs in NetBeans 3.4: <http://openide.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=195621&listName=dev> And some people still seem to be unhappy with NetBeans performance. Would it be possible to compile NetBeans into native code? <http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=196050&listName=nbdev> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This issue of NetBeans Weekly News was brought to you by Petr Hrebejk.
