The referenced bug is about jdk8 build failures on Windows. My 
understanding is that on *nix, builds with jdk8 work with current 
main-silver (which is what I used for my test). Unless you do some 
testing of the jdk8 branch on windows, after the switch/merge it may be 
impossible to build on windows if jdk7 is no longer an option.

The question is whether or not the jdk8 branch has explicit fixes to get 
jdk8 builds working on windows.
