there is a small time window, where i have make an appointment with the 
people who admin the labs to go in and spend *many* hours making sure that 
it works (they use winxp and i use win98).

sure, but it's a time suck to do it every time the os upgrades and/or 
netbeabs upgrades.

there is a master install. that is what i get to add to.

it's all doable, but i did this for togetherj for (twice) and it took a 
week each time (this was at csulb.edu and there were security and admin 
consideration), so i am leery of attempting to even install anything that 
is real simple. but should i ever have control if  a lab, then i would not 
hesitate.
