This isn't the list really for such a request. nbdiscuss is really to discuss the NB web site, CVS, Mercurial, Wiki, etc ... all the project support stuff. nbdev is for the actual development of the IDE and the Platform. nbusers is for general user support. [email protected] is for using the NB RCP, but the main thing to note is every list has a description for what it is for, and best to read those and follow them best you can.

If you want to chip in on an open source project first things first...provide a few patches, help some users with some issues on nbusers (the main support mailing list for NB), file enhancement requests and bugs, and kind of work your way in. Nobody can tell anothers dedication until they see it, no matter the resume or anything else. So I suggest going to:

and seeing the ways one can contribute. Also you'll need the sources to know what you are doing and getting into if that is what you want to really do, and nobody can really bring you up to speed, it is more of a baptism by fire in most open source projects, and when you get into some specific code and have specific questions then that is the time to get help etc, so see:

And really the easiest way is to setup a netbeans.org user account (all free of course):

then you do (You'll Apache ANT setup for this as well, and be sure and read the stuff in the getting sources part about flags and either setup .cvsrc or pass them on the command line, and have a directory setup you want the sources in...lets say nbsources for lack of a better term right now, and NB must have Java 1.5 to build at the moment...helps keep erroneous dependencies on methods and classes not in Java 1.5 out):
Windows:

cd nbsources

mkdir trunk

cd trunk

set cvsroot=:pserver:[email protected]:/cvs
cvs login

enter password when asked and enter

cvs co nbbuild

set JAVA_HOME=c:\somepath\to\the\JDK1.5\top\directory

ant -f nbbuild/build.xml checkout

and that will get you all the sources. The only real difference on *nix would be:
export CVSROOT=":pserver:[email protected]:/cvs"
export JAVA_HOME=/somepath/to/the/JDK1.5/top/directory

Then once you start working your way in and understanding the community you'll be better situated to know where you would like to offer help and how comfortable you will be in the different areas.
