I am volunteering in the NetBeans french localization team for a while 
now. The portuguese team is really motivated and active and I think you 
will be welcomed there. You will find further information at 
http://translatedfiles.netbeans.org/. From there, you will be able to 
join any localization team you are interested in and then you will 
receive any help you need.
