I am happy to hear that you're planning to contribute to NetBeans. Although this list is probably appropriate for that announcement, the nbdev list would be more appropriate for technical questions as Glenn mentioned. Since this is a relatively low-traffic list with few people subscribed, you'll probably get better results by asking your question again on the nbdev list. I do know that due to Mercurial's design, it's not possible to check out a subset of a repository as you formerly could do with CVS. On the plus side, once you do get the whole thing checked out, it's *much* faster to do updates and commits than with CVS.
