Reports to: Director Software Engineering - IDE Position Overview This individual will be a lead engineer on a small engineering team = developing Unveil's environment for the development of customer = interaction applications in a multi-channel contact center. The = individual will be the team's expert in Interactive Development = Environments and will be responsible for ensuring a proper application = design for the IDE environment and implementing and testing the = application development environment. In addition, this individual will = contribute to the long-term product direction of the IDE. Duties & Responsibilities * Translate the engineering requirements into a design for the IDE - a = design that builds on an open-source IDE framework and incorporates the = company's strategic technologies. * Play a principal role in the implementation of the IDE ensuring = delivery of the IDE within an aggressive product introduction plan. * Work with marketing in developing the presentation of the IDE = features. * Track the trends in IDE state-of-the-art and IDE frameworks and = translate those trends into product directions for Unveil's IDE. * Participate in the presentation and description of the product to = potential customers, partners, and industry analysts. * Any other duties that arise in an early stage start-up focused on = bringing its first product to market. Challenges One of the principal features of Unveil's initial product offering is a = substantial reduction in the time and effort to produce customer = interaction applications including speech recognition driven = applications. The IDE is pivotal in achieving this critical product = objective. =20 This individual will need to understand the state-of-the-art in IDE = architecture, the state-of-practice in open-source IDE frameworks, and = work with the core technologies team in moving the company's strategic = technologies from prototype to production status. This individual must = be adept at translating IDE concepts into reality. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Working knowledge of IDEs, Java-based IDE frameworks (e.g., NetBeans, = Eclipse, JBuilder) and their support for the application development = process. * Working knowledge of J2SE technologies (e.g., Swing, Collections, = JDBC, J2D) and design patterns in their application. * Working knowledge of J2EE application development / deployment = technologies (e.g., WARs, EARs, EJB development tools, JSP development = tools). * Working knowledge of XML, XML dialect definition technologies (e.g., = XMLSchemas), and Java-based XML processing infrastructures (e.g., SAX, = DOM, Xerces-J, JDOM). * Working knowledge of application development technologies (e.g., = editors, compilers, archivers, deployers, version control systems).=20 * Skilled at Java development. Skills in C++ and C# development a plus. * Skilled at designing systems using object-oriented analysis & design = methodologies (e.g., UML). * Skilled in making presentations and demonstrating products to = audiences of different participants (e.g., customers, analysts, = technical peers, non-technical professionals) and size. * Ability to problem-solve and constructively contribute to the IDE = team's objectives. * Ability to create a team spirit within a team and amongst teams. * Ability to operate within a multi-cultural environment. * Ability to work within a startup environment. =20 Credentials and Experience * BS Computer Science or Software Engineering. * 5+ years professional software engineering experience. * 3+ years Java software engineering experience. * 2+ years developing or extending an IDE framework. NetBeans a plus. * Experience in successful high-technology startups a plus. * Experience leading a development team a plus.
