Article idea for TechRepublic

My name is Justin James, and I am the primary blogger for TechRepublic in
their "Programming and Development" category
(http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/programming-and-development/).
I have an idea for an article on TechRepublic, inspired by one of my
readers. I would like to do an "IDE productivity shootout", where we take a
look at performing a number of common development tasks and evaluating how
easy/hard they are to do in any given IDE. In addition to looking at the
usual subjective things, like "the screen is really cluttered" and "I
thought this feature was innovative", I really want to measure how difficult
or easy it is to write an application in these IDEs.
Here's where you come in:
I can't do the tasks myself, because in all honesty, the only IDE I am super
familiar with is Visual Studio. It would be completely unfair for me to
evaluate the "day-to-day productivity" using metrics with a system I am not
familiar with. To make it as fair as possible, I am going to take a step
back to "judge" and "observer" role, and put together a list of common
development tasks, which should (in my opinion) take a few hours total to
complete, but will encompass the whole of what a typical developer might do.
I would like you to provide developers who knows NetBeans well to go through
the development of the applications, recording the process with screen
capture software. Afterwards, I will review the videos, take metrics, and
interview the developers to get their feedback. The kind of person I am
looking for is someone who is really familiar with the product, who uses it
every day and represents a "typical user". I am not looking for developers
of NetBeans or Sun employees, but employees of a customer/partner or other
heavy user of NetBeans.
I can't provide any monetary compensation for the participants, but I can
definitely give them a place to "shine" in public, a brief bio and link to
their projects/employers/whatever, and so on.
I just put this out as an idea to TR, so I don't know if we are going to
roll with it or not, but I wanted to start getting my ducks in a row to be
able to put this together.
