to clarify more:

your patch changes functionality for the editors command. Some people might rely on the current 
behaviour. That could be considered non-backward compatible change (since the editors comamnd is not 
in 3.3 release of netbeans it could be considered *not released* yet though - if we match the 
library's release to the netbeans releases)

The netbeans IDE doesn't use the editors command yet, so I have no porblem with the semantic change.
