Problems with setCheckoutDirectory on windows

I'm trying to get my CheckoutCommand to work on Windows.

If I *don't* specify a checkout directory (via setCheckoutDirectory), it
works fine.

If I *do* specify a checkout directory (such as "D:\foo"), I get a command
exception. Yikes!

How can I specify an absolute windows-style pathname for
setCheckoutDirectory?

Thanks!
