Benoit,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm developing an application
that will be used by non-technical people, so the installation
has be fairly generic, as well as cross-platform. Not too many
people would know how to set such a thing up, though I do have
a system property that locates the repository, and that could
be placed on a RAM disk as you say. It certainly would speed
up performance, though also risk the repository should the OS
crash (something I've never had happen on linux, but is all too
frequent on others).
