thanks for your answer.

From what I understood, I first have to load a metamodel (M2) before loading
the model itself (M1). Am I right?

What do you mean exactly by "instantiating model package"? What I do so far
is starting NetBeans, switching to "MDR browser" view and trying to import
some XMI file. It sound as if you were doing something completely different. 

Sorry for my stupid questions but I'm new to NetBeans/MDR. Let me say that
the online help is not very helpful.
