A novice question about the repository

Hello,
I am very new to MDR and I may be a bit off track in regard to its basics.

My questions are please:
1. Does MDR allow storing the actual instances of the model - or is it only
for storing the model.
2. Also, if MDR is for storing these model instance objects, did any one try
to use it as a central repository of some stand alone server/application.
Storing and manipulating hundred of thousands of objects?
