As I said, you can use the package clustering construct to extend the
UML packages. Package clustering is similar to package nesting, the
difference is that the clustered packages (unlike nested packages) are
full-blown extents and can be accessed directly as if they would be
outermost packages. So applications that support pure UML can connect
directly to the UML extends without knowing anything about your
extensions. If you pass this UML extent to the XMI Reader, it will
export only the pure UML. If you pass the instance of your extended UML
model (that clusters the pure UML extent), XMI Reader will export
everything.
