problem installing mdr

Hi, I have downloaded and installed netbeans 5 for linux. According to the instructions mdr should be automatically installed. Although when I choose the view menu - there is no option to select "FreeStyle Browser". I then downloaded and installed netbeans 3.6 for linux and followed the instructions to install mdr via the update center. This has proved unsuccessful also as I get the following message "Check the proxy settings or try again later. The server may be unavailable at this time." Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong?
