2.0 metamodel had some internal structural problems that means that
valid XMI could not be generated when the package merge rules were

The Zip file has many files within it: to make sense of them you need to
understand that:

a) UML2 has several levels of compliance:=20
L0 corresponds to structure of EMOF (subset of MOF 1.4 - has no
Associations)
LM corresponds to structure of CMOF (superset of MOF 1.4 - has
association generalization, redefinition)
L1 to L3 correspond to different levels of UML Superstructure

b) UML2 makes use of a technique called Package Merge (a bit like
inheritance but at the package level). For convenience the metamodel is
also provided in merged form though this is not the normative version
(by which I mean that in the unlikely case of discrepancy the unmerged
version is the official one)

c) The version of XMI corresponding to MOF 2.0 is XMI 2.1 (XMI 2.0 is
for MOF 1.4 only)

As with all versions of XMI, the XSD (or DTD) is not very tight in terms
of what it validates. Do not make the mistake of thinking that a
document that is validated by the XSD is valid XMI! (However if it
cannot be validated by the XSD you can be confident that it is not valid
XMI).

There are revisions of MOF (MOF 2.2) and XMI (XMI 2.2) due to complete
in the next few months. MOF 2.1 will be built on UML 2.1 as you might
expect.
