As Peter stated; core.ui in NB 8.1 still has the hardcoded BLUE color and changing the "u" and "a" colors in editor kit as described here does not seem to be solving the problem.

Peter found an issue in Bugzilla for this which says it was fixed at 2015-09-13, though I dont understand why NetBeans 8.1 (which was released at 2015-11-04) has the hardcoded color:
