No, there are no SOURCE CODE reasons why they wouldn't work.

You may have to rebuild, dunno, to get the dependencies to work. I haven't
myself tried to use the binaries as-is in a < 8.1 application.

Rebuilding is by the looks of it simple:  just change Maven variable
"netbeans.version" to something else and off you do. However I remember
having to give the dependencies some changes when moving from 8.01 to 8.1.
I believe there has been some re-organisation of the NB code base between
those two versions, or something. In any case: be prepared to "fix"
dependencies as well.

All in all - if I was you - I would rather spend my time getting my
application up to 8.1.  :-)
