Is the NetBeans Platform the best choice for a JavaFX only desktop application?

I wanted to give the user the ability to customize the look of the application. The hybrid approach of the NetBeans Platform does not look good for that case. Also I have mixed results when running a sample platform app in different environments (although, mostly different Linux desktops).
