Hmm. Just out of curiousity: I understand there was a time when NB Platform
attempted to create Swing objects off the EDT (for performance reasons) but
would then do the actual display on the EDT.  I remember some discussion at
the time if this was legal behaviour for a Swing application or not. Is
that what you are referring to here ?  Because in essence a L&F is not
expected to be thread safe since everything is assumed to be happening on
the EDT.

(my memory may be playing tricks on me here so don't take it too literally)
