Documentation for old projects system

Now that the new projects system is getting put to sleep, is there any
documentation on how to extend the old projects system programmatically? I
haven't been very successful in digging anything up on netbeans.org. I am
aware of the end-user documentation on how to use projects, but that doesn't
tell me much about how to extend projects programmatically.
