Function of XAM

Hello all,

I am trying to get an idea of how the XML support in NetBeans works.
It would be nice if some one here could explain to me in simple terms,
what exactly is the purpose 'XAM' is serving, possibly with a simple
example. May be after this, i can better understand the page at
http://xml.netbeans.org/xam-usage.html
