With me, the problem of the drop-down isn't that it's alphabetical or
whatever - it's just more cumbersome to use than doing a single click on
a tab.  There has to be a better way than what is currently implemented.

If others agree, I would like to create an RFE (could you point me to
the URL for filing one?) that suggests either providing a new "Open Files"
view/tab for Explorer or changing the existing "Open Documents" window to attach
as a tab in the explorer - and modifying it so one can single-click on a
file to make it appear in the editor!  This way, I think we can all be happy:
those who want to use the editor's drop-down and left/right arrows can do so;
those who prefer to always see a list of open files, can just keep the new
"Open Document" tab selected in the explorer!
