I see the comments that people are posting about the new projects
system. I have been a user and promoter of Netbeans right from the early
3.x days and have been instrumental in a significant number of people
moving to Netbeans.

I have a few points to make in this discussion and I hope it will be
taken in the right spirit:

1. NB4.0 is a first release of the new Projects feature. Like any other
new feature, I would give it atleast 2 releases before it stabalizes. So
my suggestion, stick to 3.6 until 4.1 comes out.

2. The projects feature is still evolving heavily. I realized that all
the developers use cases have not really been taken care of yet. Eg. the
projects have been explicitly divided into J2SE, J2EE and J2ME projects.
There are, in most programmer cases, cross breed applications (like the
ones mentioned in the thread) where one may need to runa single class
when working in a web project. These have not yet been taken care of
since the projects implementation is not complete.

3. Newer types of projects are going to be written soon ( like the one
that integrates with Maven ). This is not possible with other IDE's
(other than Eclipse) as easily. So, the feedback from other project
system writers is going to help evolve the core API for this.

4. Remember that nb4.0 is still a pre-alpha product. You are not
expected to use it in production environment yet. If you expect it to
work flawlessly, you need to read the documentation again. Please wait
for the release to come out in the next couple of weeks.

5. I like the support for Refactoring in Eclipse but I think that the
support that has been put in NB for the 4.0 release is realistic when
you consider that they are doing a re-write of the core pieces of the IDE.
