backup files creation

I just spent about an hour searching for how to turn off those annoying 
.~ backup files.  After trying on 2 separate days and looking at all the 
options in Tools->Options, I was stumped.  And, I've used NetBeans for a 
long time....

I think the default must have changed b/w 3.x and 4.x, but is the new 
default correct?
