FWIW: on my laptop, the SAX-based outline view can show an outline for the master file for this book (cca. 2Mb of XML in total) in about two seconds (with a warm disk cache). Not fast, but tolerable, especially if you have the Navigator in sliding mode most of the time (so the list is computed if and when you press Ctrl-7).
