Can the Code Editor Tabs have a different layout

Is there any options in Netbeans that allows the File Tabs in the editor to
layer in a different form. i think the manner in which the tabs were in
Netbeans 3.5
is better than this present one.

You have to keep scrolling to find a file tab and then sometimes, due to GUI
responsiveness, yu mistakenly click on the x button which closes the tab.

Any option to change this? thanks
