Ok, I am giving up. Here are my prototypes if anyone is interested

1. Aggressively closing the tabs (described in the first post):

If you traverse the project explorer (or java code!) shows relevant code 
fragment.

Some 8 years back - Hanz's object browser, some 20 years back smalltalk 
code browsers. I am not saying this is production code or something. 
Just ideas what could be done.

I still think that what we currently have is suboptimal but have no time 
to work on this. What strikes me that I did not hear anything from some 
GUI (HIE) person ...
