Yes, this was a logo designed a year or two back (when the project was 
well established). Still, logos have different constraints from icons. 
For example, the logo has space to incorporate "APACHE ANT", which would 
be impossible in an icon.

True. On the other hand, the most salient thing about the project is 
that it is (e.g.) a web application. The fact that it is a freeform web 
application is also important, but probably secondary. (Even standard 
web app projects are built with Ant in NetBeans, after all - the 
difference is who writes and maintains the script, and how much 
flexibility there is in its structure.) Is there some way to make the 
icon indicate both things?

You're right about that. The update was subtle enough I didn't notice 
until I compared them side-by-side.
