Options dialog should be modal (or not?)

Hello,

As the feature freeze date is approaching I would like to somehow resolve this:
I might even get some funding to do the work myself on this ;-)

But I need to know what is the desired state and whether everybody is happy with
how the current options dialog looks like, especially please read my last
message in the issue:

if you will disscuss with the usability team can you please bring on the table
following change (it was a request from one of our users and I think he is
right): clicking the "Advanced options" button should bring another (new) modal
dialog that would have the "basic" one as its parent. The person who suggested
this have never seen NetBeans (only our platform based app) and I think he is
right - what he says is what would "normal" user expect from "normal" program.

As you can see from the date the issue was sleeping for some time now - can it
still be solved for 6.0?
