Try this:
1) Create New Web Project on Glassfish, JavaEE5
2) Open web.xml and select Security view
3) Open sun-web.xml, double click on Sun Web Application node, no 
subnodes yet
4) In web.xml Add some Role
5) Switch to sun-web.xml and voila, theres new subnode with name of new role

This 100% works, I'll demonstrate it tomorrow.
