Body:
I agree - the only person I know who uses the Hibernate providers with the default configuration is Matt Porter from the JLCP (www.jlcp.org).
I think the three of us should work together to make it work as best as possible.
The way hibernate is built, an 'out of the box' solution is never going to be as performant as one that is integrated with your application's connection / configuration management - but we can probably improve the default.
Let's get it working first, then look at improvements second?

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: USER-46
Summary: HIbernateProviders are buggy.
Type: Bug
Status: Assigned
Priority: Blocker
Project: OSUser
Components:
ProfileProviders
Assignee: Patrick Lightbody
Reporter: Konstantin Pribluda
Created: Mon, 4 Aug 2003 12:03 PM
Updated: Mon, 4 Aug 2003 12:03 PM
Environment: Any
Description:
Hmm, OSUserHibernateConfigurationProviderImpl extends
DefaultHibernateConfigurationProvider - but forgets to call
super.setupConfiguration().
This successfully prevents hibernate property set from proper
( any :) ) function - it just does not get any SessionFactory...
Oh, just forgot , while we are at it - why do we need 3 instances of
this provider? ( one fo AccessProvider, one for CredentialsProvider... )
