Tony,

For steps that are assigned to a role/group I set the owner to null.
I then create a query that checks for (owner='xxx' or owner=null) and
(Status=Underway).
Now, you have to go through the list and see if you have access to each
step.

If anyone has a better solution, I'd be happy to see it.
