That's right. Inside the workflow you can store and retrieve arbitrary
information in a Propertyset, that is where I would try to store teh count
of documents. You could also externalize the workflow instance id, associate
it to the documents and use scripting or a class to checkit.

We used an unmodified AbstractWorkflow class.

Anibal's solution can (should) also work with the current release of
OSWorkflow.
