Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: WF-181
Summary: Remove (or throw unchecked) Exceptions for read-only methods in Workflow interface
       Type: Improvement

     Status: Assigned
   Priority: Minor

    Project: OSWorkflow
 Components:
             Core
   Versions:
             2.5

   Assignee: Patrick Lightbody
   Reporter: Nick Dellamaggiore

    Created: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 5:52 PM
    Updated: Wed, 23 Jul 2003 5:52 PM

Description:
In light of the "OSWorkflow: new Exception handling" thread on [email protected], I'd like to suggest that the following non-DML methods in the Workflow interface either:

1. Don't throw any Exceptions
or
2. Throw a RuntimeException

Methods are (ordered by most wanted):

List getCurrentSteps(long id)
List getHistorySteps(long id)
WorkflowDescriptor getWorkflowDescriptor(String workflowName)
int[] getAvailableActions(long id)
boolean canInitialize(String workflowName, int initialStep)
String getWorkflowName(long id)
List getSecurityPermissions(long id)

thanks.
