I'm somewhat confused on the status of this. We'd like to migrate it to 
java.net, but I don't know if the current cvs is what should be 
migrated, or some refactored form, or sandbox, or something else 
entirely.

I'd be happy migrating the existing one since that is what is deployed 
in a number of places. I'd also like to start committing some of the 
patches we're getting for it, since all other implementations seem 
somewhat vapurwarish at the moment. Thoughts?
