I don't *want* it to work, it was just a suggestion... :) Now, seriously, I think that if the validation framework could also ignore the ".action" just like the FilterDispatcher does, it would save the begginners a lot of headaches. It's confusing when something works in one place but doesn't work in another. It should work or don't work in both the same. I'll open an issue in JIRA and you guys decide if it's worth the trouble or not.
