How do you access application scope (ServletContext) variables/beans?

Hello All,
 
  I have been going through the various posts and have found a few about accessing request and session scope variables/beans through the RequestContext static method.  I am wondering if there is a way to access application scope variables/beans?  FYI, I'm using Struts on Tomcat and used the DigestingPlugIn to set an application scope object as this data must persist through all sessions.  My goal is to remote this data to Flash via openAMF.  If anyone can shed some light on this, I would surely be grateful as I have been stumped on this matter for over 2 weeks now.
