Default Gateway not working with Spring injection

When I use the Default Gateway with Spring my injections fail.  The
Default Gateway without Spring works fine.  If I use the Advanced
Gateway and define my service everything works fine.  However, i want
to know why the Default Gateway doesn't work.  All of my other
projects have used the Default Gateway and Spring with no problem.
