For the RMI connector, you can configure the interval 
between pings, in seconds, e.g:
  <RmiConfiguration embeddedRegistry="true"
                    registryHost="localhost"
                    registryPort="1099"
                    clientPingInterval="15"/>

There is no equivalent for the TCP connector (although there
probably should be).
