about DOM

hello, i ask some question again
1. i need to implement the webpage that must be have a 
service to get xml database
in your DOM sample, i think this might can be implemented
i have object item with child class like itemA, itemB, 
itemC
itemA have A,B
but i just want to create an XML object from class item.
i mean itemA as item (with casting or polymorp in java)
can i do this?
can i use toXML() method to generate the xml?
can i use toXML() method tho generate from collection? or 
treeMap?
would you like to explain to me?
if it can't use that method, what method that can i used 
for?
