Hello together,

some time ago I posted some detailed questions about the ozone licensing
model and your back-end implementation strategy. I mentioned the
potential option to back our solution with ozone. Unfortunately after
some initial mailings the contact was discontinued. Nevertheless we've
finished our first milestone and we would like to show you our results!

Let me state some background information:

- We are definitely not comfortable with the evolvement of ODBMS
standards today. In fact the ODMG standard was discontinued in 2001, the
JDO standard might be merged into EJB3 and EJB3 is definitely not a
standard targeting at smart ODBMS systems - application servers are
their primary focus!

- Recently I gave the ODBMS market a closer look, and what I found was
the lack of a standard. Every system has its own strategy and they
differ quite a lot. The most systems talk about "transparent
persistence" (as ozone does) and only a few others have their own model.

- We are absolutely convinced that a persistent model is crucial for the
evolvement of object-oriented database technologies, because current OO
programming languages are not able to express certain modelling features
like bidirectional associations.

- We have developed such a model, an corresponding IDE called OOmega
Incubator, a text-oriented modelling language called SDL, a code
generator to connect to a database back-end, a binary-coded data
exchange format called SDF, a XML binding, an in-memory single-user
database for Java and so on...

- Currently we are not Open Source, but we might switch to a dual
licensing model like MySQL. Today you can evaluate our solution totally
FREE at our website. And - be aware - we are not a big company trying to
sell you something today. We are two people, investigating in ODBMS
technologies for several years now, and have done all the work alongside
our studies at Technical University of Munich.

Ok. Why do I write to you?

- At first we would be very pleased, if you could have a close look at
our solution, evaluate our product and give us feedback. It would be
wonderful to get your response! :-)

- Currently the database back-end uses the open source application
server JBoss. In the future we would like to support one or more ODBMS
systems to gain performance improvements. Another option would be to
implement an own ODBMS, which perfectly integrates with our model and
solution. We are not keen to gather the necessary know-how to implement
a database back-end, but there might be some developers out there who
would like to join us.

- We are in search of an investment, because we can not finance further
improvements on our own. Your feedback and hopefully positive resonance
could help us to go on with our vision.

So, please have a look at our website:

I'm part of the ozone-users mailing list, so you can share your thoughts
on that list. Additionally you're welcome to write an e-mail directly to

Thanks in advance!
