This is an very odd situation. If you ae using an windows/dos 
maschine (you forgot to tell us), I guess your operating system 
has ran out of file handles. Please check how many open
files you have and refer to your operating system manual
(check google for instance :) how to increase the amount
of available file handles. (usally it is 20 on Win98).
